Moiorcroft Cobridge Stoneware Voyager Vase in original Box

A beautifully executed Cobridge “Voyager” Vase, standing 25.5cm high, richly decorated with a striking compass motif set against a stylised map of the world. The design is both decorative and symbolic, evoking themes of travel and exploration, enhanced by a harmonious palette of deep blues, greens, ochres and soft earth tones. The form is classic and well-balanced, with a gently swelling body rising to a defined neck, finished with a deep blue glazed rim. The surface decoration is finely detailed, with the compass rose framed in a circular medallion, while the surrounding map-like imagery gives the piece a strong narrative quality. Marked to the base Cobridge Stoneware, Made in England, ©1999, and additionally signed and numbered (9/100), confirming this as a limited edition example. Cobridge holds a particularly interesting place within modern British ceramics. Established in 1998 as an offshoot of Moorcroft, it was created under the ownership of Hugh Edwards to explore more experimental glazes and forms, distinct from Moorcroft’s traditional tube-lined wares. Many of the same highly skilled Moorcroft artists and designers worked across both potteries, bringing the same level of craftsmanship and artistic integrity to Cobridge pieces, though with greater freedom in technique and style. The venture was relatively short-lived, closing in 2005, which has since added to the collectability of early Cobridge work, particularly limited editions such as this example.
