My partner and I have been going through a bit of a rough patch and therapy did not help – though these cards did.With couples therapy we learned we didn’t need a sounding board – we needed to better learn each other through conversation – and therapy was basically just us rehashing things we’ve already gone over a thousand times to clue the therapist in on everything… which then got us even more frustrated with each other. It was truly a waste of time and money. Individual therapy = great, couples therapy = not so great and provided no helpful or new tips, it was literally just her using reflective or accusatory language at us. Not helpful.Our issues are/were centered around conversation. And while I’m always hungry for information and share most everything, my partner and I are very much opposites. He wants me to be included in his life but he struggles with determining what to share and what not to share. It’s a true ASD (autism) dilemma of an individual not being able to decipher how to pick what type of information you should or should want to communicate with your partner. So it’s either no information – or every little detail.Enter this deck:The questions are pointed and direct. And promoted by randomness of the deck We only use them when we know we have some time on our hands as one card can organically turn into a full lengthy conversation.Our only rule is we’re allowed to skip cards and come back to it later. As the cards can often ask deep-seeded questions or provoke some need for marination, we sometimes find ourselves in a mutual “can we come back to that one later?”All-in-all, the format, specification of the questions, and unbiased nature of these cards has been truly helpful.While they won’t fix a relationship, they will help to give guided focus on rebuilding conversation and getting to know your partner more deeply.
